A SEASONAL PAUSE

In February 2023, I swam my first 1km ocean swim and I wrote my first Seasonal Reflections describing the experience. Two years on, I recently completed my third ocean swim and have played with ways of combining my love of psychology, the joy of writing and the corporate context in which I work.

I have learnt a few things along the way.

I am more grateful than ever for my time in the ocean at sunrise. No-one steps out of the sea without a smile on their face; the ocean is nature's antidepressant. I discovered that it is even fun to swim through winter – I have turned into one of those mad people!

Writing is something I continue to enjoy. Even under pressure, even when I am not quite sure what to say, I find the process therapeutic. It encourages me to reflect, and it often results in connections emerging that I had not yet considered.

Finally, I value the connecting. I miss the chatter that comes with waiting in the coffee queue in the morning, the laughter that pervades teamwork and the sense of achievement that can come from collaborating on something complex with a team. When you reach out with a comment or mention something about my blog when we speak, it reminds me that my global network is alive and well.

That said, it was an experiment and while I have enjoyed it (and I hope you have too), it is time to change direction. I am going to pause through the autumn/spring of 2025 and consider what form Seasonal Reflections might take. I have some ideas but am also open to being encouraged, coerced or inspired.

I would value your input, so if you have an extra minute, please share your thoughts in the the link below.

Until I write again, keep well.

Carmel
